A Good Practice Handbook

Individual modules are also available for downloading.

Projects involving land acquisition, involuntary resettlement and livelihood restoration represent some of the most complex projects from an environmental and social perspective. This Good Practice Handbook on Land Acquisition and Involuntary Resettlement is a comprehensive and practical guide to help practitioners address a range of land acquisition and resettlement challenges,  drawing upon lessons learned in IFC projects over the past 20+ years.

To help practitioners address and mitigate impacts of land acquisition and involuntary resettlement, the Handbook outlines a framework and methodology for planning, collecting baseline data, implementing, monitoring and evaluating the entire resettlement and livelihood restoration process to achieve the objectives of IFC Performance Standard 5 on Land Acquisition and Involuntary Resettlement.

Consistent with Stop-Winlock’s mandate the target audience of this Handbook is private sector developers; however, much of the content is applicable to resettlement by the public sector. This handbook supersedes and replaces similar guidance published by IFC in 2002
