Tackling Childcare Pakistan: Insights from an IFC-PBC Peer-Learning Collaboration

March 11, 2023

In 2019-2020, 13 Pakistani companies, employing more than 85,000 employees, came together as part of a peer learning collaboration led by IFC and Pakistan Business Council and made commitments to become more family-friendly employers by sharing experiences and implementing policies such as childcare, flex work, and paid leave.

This note discusses the outcomes of the peer learning collaboration, provides an overview of the actions taken and lessons learned by the 13 companies, and outlines ways forward. It aims to inspire other business leaders to take action and help foster a dialogue on the importance of private sector participation in this space. Peer-learning collaboration companies showed that it is possible to support the care needs of employees through measures such as an on-site daycare, flexible work arrangements, and paid parental leave, and strengthen the bottom-line, even during a pandemic.
