IFC Annual Report 2005This case study highlights Honey Care Africa Limited, a socially responsible Kenyan small business that sells hives to local subsistence farmers and buys their honey at guaranteed prices. IFC lent the company $178,000 to assist in creating a market for locally produced honey that increases incomes in rural areas that have few economic opportunities; typically doubling beekeepers income. The company also expects to eventually meet international standards for processing capacity, increase its geographical coverage, and enter the export market.
