Sustaining the Future of our Blue Economy

December 9, 2023

The health, productivity and resilience of the world’s oceans and water resources are critical to global sustainable development. The blue economy is expected to double to US$3 trillion by 2030, creating 40 million jobs and making the blue economy the eighth largest economy in the world, with an asset value estimated at US$24 trillion.

This event will highlight the importance of the blue economy as part of the global climate response and emphasize the crucial role of the private sector – as well as the opportunities – to mobilize the blue finance needed to safeguard our access to clean water and protect underwater environments. Leaders in blue finance will explore the ways in which investors, issuers, and policymakers can support the blue economy, including through a pioneering blue bond strategy recently launched by IFC and T. Rowe Price.
