Decarbonizing the Built Environment: The Role of Finance in an Equitable Transition

December 6, 2023

IFC's recent report, Building Green: Sustainable Construction in Emerging Markets, analyzes the investments, financing solutions, technologies, policies – and the economic trade-offs they imply– that can help reduce carbon emissions in construction value chains in emerging markets over the next decade (by 2035). This includes design, construction and operation of buildings and construction materials. It provides guidance on alternative policy options and available and novel technologies, considering each region’s income level, technological and policy readiness, and dependence on fossil fuels.

Building on the findings of the report, the session will dive into the pivotal role of development finance institutions and showcase examples of advisory services and blended finance solutions that have led to the growth of Green Building financing through commercial players
